The history of samba
Dancing samba was born in the region of Bahia in Brazil in the 17th century, but has its roots in religious traditions brought to the New World by slaves from Africa, as kantomple (worship ceremony). The name is derived from the word "semba" in the African dialect bantu, the language of slaves from Angola, which means "invitation" to dance. According to another theory, it comes from the Arabic word "Zambri" or "Zambia" dating from the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula from the Moors.
